Recognising China's anti-counterfeiting day with Afternoon Tea in Shanghai
It was such a pleasure to host a Brand Protection event on China's Anti-Counterfeiting Day, March 15th, at the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the BUND.
Popular with the Shanghai IP Circle, over 60 representatives from rightsholders, legal professionals and other IP practitioners came together to hear the latest developments and exchange perspectives of the industry at the special afternoon tea event.
The afternoon began with a welcome from Yellow Brand Protection's Head of Operations, Linda Silberg, followed by Asia Director, Zihan Liu.
Zihan introduced Yellow Brand Protection and Corsearch and presented how our competence in the region is not only due to ground-breaking brand protection technology but also the Shanghai based team, who work tirelessly to secure strong relationships with key marketplaces and local enforcement expertise.
Following Zihan's presentation, Client Managers, Hazel He and Tommy Wu, gave their insights on the anti-piracy of digital content on major Chinese and international platforms. Discussing how typically pirated digital content takes the form of electronic publications and audio-visual presentations, it is C2C marketplaces, video sharing websites, and ever-more popular video streaming apps where digital content piracy is mostly thriving. They advised how rightsowners need to keep the upper hand by constantly upgrading their anti-piracy strategy in order to protect copyrights in this ever-changing digital age.
Special thanks go to Philippe Snel, Managing Partner De Wolf Law Firm in Shanghai who provided a very engaging talk from a foreign practitioner view on the new Chinese e-commerce law and IP law best practice in general.
It was a thoroughly informative yet informal occasion which allowed important and current IP issues to be shared. It was wonderful to see so many of the delegates exchanging ideas and insights to form best practice ideas in solving counterfeiting and other brand abuse issues going forward. It really proved to us just how crucial it is to have a local presence in key markets.
