2018 iacc sPRING cONFERENCE ROUND-UP
It was really great to again sponsor the IACC Annual Spring Conference in Seattle and meet up with so many of our clients and industry peers. This year's theme “Bridging the Divide - Global Collaboration and New Partnerships to Fight Counterfeits”, created many great discussions that focussed on forming and expanding collaborative efforts to address counterfeiting. If you didn't make it this year, there is an insightful post-event round-up from the IACC.
€60 billion is lost every year due to counterfeiting
This is the latest startling figure according to reports from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in their 2018 Synthesis Report on IPR infringement, published directly following World Anti-Counterfeiting Day on 6th June 2018. The full report, which details the economic consequences of IPR infringement and planned actions to combat it, can be found on the EUIPO website.
10 MILLION PATENTS
The 10 millionth patent was issued by The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on June 19th 2018, almost exactly 228 years to the date that the first every U.S. patent was issued. In 1790, Samuel Hopkins was issued a patent for "improvements in the making of pot ash and pearl ash”, signed by President George Washington.
