EU Counterfeit & Piracy Watch List Released
In what is effectively the EU version of the US Notorious Markets list, the first European Commission Counterfeit & Piracy Watch List has been released, highlighting websites and marketplaces outside the EU that distribute counterfeit goods. Encouraging news for EU brand owners as the purpose of the list is to urge these online marketplaces, local enforcement authorities and governments to crack down on online Intellectual Property (IP) abuse. Another intention of the list is to make people aware of the environmental, safety and other hazards of buying counterfeits from these places.

The International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) has signed a MOU with Confindustria Moda, the largest Trade Association in Italy. The ambition of the partnership is to share information and improve communication in relation to IP enforcement. IACC President, Bob Barchiesi said “These two organizations joining forces present unparalleled opportunities to fight fakes on the international stage.”
Lazada and KOIPA enter partnership to tackle counterfeit products
Alibaba Group’s Southeast Asian online shopping and selling platform, Lazada, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korean IP regulator, KOIPA, to allow the reporting and removal of counterfeit Korean brands that are found on the Lazada platform in all the countries in which it operates. The partnership signifies to rightsholders that the largest e-commerce platform in Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam is trying to deal with fake goods on its site. Lazada said “not only is it striving to become the region’s leading and most trusted place for online shoppers, but for brands and sellers too.”
