The article discusses the rise of messaging apps such as WeChat and WhatsApp and how they are being used in conjunction with online marketplaces to sell counterfeit goods. Messaging apps have now overtaken social media apps in the number of users and is now a more volatile place for infringement. Also discussed are the steps that brand and IP owners can take to combat and minimize infringements through these channels.
